Cvstodia

A land trapped in a sunset that never ends. Over it hangs the Miracle, a force that rewards and punishes the guilt of its people by giving it the shape of flesh, stone and gold.

You are the Penitent One, the sole survivor of the massacre of the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow. Trapped in a cycle of death and rebirth, you carry the Mea Culpa and a single goal: to reach the Cradle of Affliction and fulfil your penance.

The Penitent One

He never speaks a single word in the whole game. He wears a metal capirote bound by a crown of thorns, and what lies beneath is never shown. He rises among the corpses of his brothers and obeys the only thing still speaking in Cvstodia: guilt.

Mea Culpa

The Sword of Guilt. A crucified body forms its hilt and a bramble of thorns climbs up the blade. While you browse this page, it is also your cursor.

Pilgrimage

Six stations separate the pile of corpses from the final judgement. Two of them decide whether the pilgrimage can reach the true ending.

The Awakening

The Penitent One rises from a mountain of corpses: his brothers of the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow, all dead. He is the only one left. He soon meets Deogracias, witness and narrator of this story, who gives him the Thorn and sets his task: the Three Humiliations.

The Three Humiliations

He must tear three Holy Wounds, of Attrition, of Contrition and of Compunction, from Ten Piedad, Tres Angustias and Our Lady of the Charred Visage. Only with all three does the way to the heart of Cvstodia open.

The Bridge of the Three Calvaries

Esdras, of the Anointed Legion, bars the way. Here the story branches.

If you found his sister Perpetva's grave beforehand, the duel does not end in death and Esdras gives you the prayer Taranto to my Sister. If you kill him, Ending C is closed for that playthrough.

The Three Masks

Beneath the city lies Mother of Mothers, the buried cathedral, where Melquíades, the Exhumed Archbishop, awaits. His Deformed Mask of Orestes is the first of three. The Embossed Mask of Crescente waits in the Library of the Negated Words; the Mirrored Mask of Dolphos, at the top of the convent. Along the way fall Expósito, Scion of Abjuration, and Quirce, Returned by the Flames.

The Archcathedral Rooftops

The three masks fit the three-faced statue that lifts the Penitent One to the rooftops of the Archcathedral. There Crisanta of the Wrapped Agony waits.

Defeating her is mandatory. Breaking her chains is only possible on the road to Ending C, with the Apodictic Heart of Mea Culpa equipped.

His Holiness

In the Deambulatory of His Holiness awaits Escribar, the Pope of Cvstodia. When he falls, he is reborn as the Last Son of the Miracle. Then comes the judgement, and what the Penitent One has carried along the way decides how it all ends.

Three endings

Cvstodia judges what you carried to the end. Tell the beads of your playthrough and the Miracle will pass its verdict.
